Images posted to social media showed a pod of killer whales making an unusual appearance in Vancouver Wednesday.
Twitter user Tara Smith posted a series of photos and videos of the orcas taken between the Cambie and Granville Street bridges.
A boater also managed to capture video of the four killer whales swimming near Sunset Beach as they left False Creek.
Staff at the Vancouver Aquarium told CTV News they believe the orcas are transients, not the endangered Southern Resident killer whales.
Transient whales' dorsal fins are much straighter and more pointed than the curved fins belonging to Southern Residents.
The aquarium said the animals were likely visiting False Creek looking for food as they're known to hunt for seals in shallow water.
