SURREY -- One man has been injured after a shooting in a residential area of Surrey Thursday night.

RCMP were called to 147 Street near 83 Avenue, not far from Enver Creek, at about 9 p.m. One victim was rushed to hospital but is expected to survive.

Mounties say they believe the driver was trying to flee his shooter when he crashed the silver BMW into a fence near a public walkway between two homes.

"The vehicle was being driven away from the scene after the driver received a gunshot wound," Const. Richard Wright told CTV News Vancouver. "As I'm sure you can be aware that if you are injured, your heart rate is increased and may lead you, if you're operating a vehicle, to collide with objects in your path."

The car came to a rest in the yard of a home that remained behind police tape Friday morning.

Windows in the car appear to be broken.

Surrey RCMP say no suspects have been arrested in the case.

"Police believe this incident is targeted because the early indications are that the parties involved were known to each other," Wright said. "Early indications show there's no ongoing threat to public safety."

Anyone with information or security footage from the incident is asked to called Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
