Statistics Canada says it was a little cheaper to live in Canada last month.

Inflation across the country nudged down one-tenth of a point to 1.2 per cent in August, partly because of significant declines in the price of natural gas, mortgage interest cost and women's clothing.

B.C.'s rate also fell one basic point to an even one per cent, while inflation in Victoria dipped by the same amount to 0.9 per cent and Vancouver's rate didn't budge from the 1.4 per cent it hit in July.

Stats Can says the national inflation rate is now equal to the lowest point it has been in more than two years, and is well below the two per cent setting that could trigger interest rate increases.
