A fire in a new apartment building shut down part of Granville Street in downtown Vancouver this morning.

The 24-floor building at the corner of Granville and Drake streets is under construction which made it challenging for fire crews to reach the fire.

The building does not have a sprinkler system installed yet, so fire crews needed 45 minutes to carry the hose to the fire.

Fire crews said the damage was restricted to one corner suite on the 21st floor, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Since the building is under construction, no one was in the building and no injuries were reported.

Bus and vehicle traffic was shut down around the area.
