A Penticton, B.C., man charged in connection with the beating death of a fellow resident at a local strip club last year was previously convicted of killing a three-year-old girl in Ontario.

Michael Richard Beauchamp, a drug addict at the time, beat his girlfriend's daughter to death 11 years ago in an attack the judge at his trial described as "atrocious and horrendous."

He was given 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter, but his sentence was cut in half for time served in jail awaiting trial.

The 40-year-old has now been charged with second-degree murder for allegedly attacking Terrence Dale Wooley behind Slack Alice's Gentleman's Club in Penticton last April.

Police found Wooley behind the bar unconscious with severe head injuries. He remained in a coma for a month and died without regaining consciousness May 25.

Beauchamp was arrested without incident last Friday.
