Celebrated Canadian architect Arthur Erickson died weeks ago, but the ripple effects of his passing are still being felt in Vancouver.

On Sunday, the Ross Street Temple wrapped up a special three-day prayer service in his honour.

Erickson designed the temple to very particular specifications.

The Khalsa Diwan Society wanted it to be modern enough to fit in with the surrounding area and appeal to young Sikhs, while keeping traditional aspects for elders.

"As soon as we had the first meeting we knew that we found a genius, this is the man who can create something with the limited resources because we were a minority that time," said Avtar Gosal of the temple committee.

Erickson travelled extensively in Asia and his family says he was thrilled to design a religious space since it brings people together.

The temple still looks modern, even though it was completed in 1970.
