One person is dead after a car crash in Richmond Sunday afternoon.

Two cars were involved in the head-on collision that occurred at Steveston Highway and Rosewood Gate just before 12:30 p.m. and police said a medical condition was the cause of the crash.

According to police, witnesses saw one car suddenly swerve into the oncoming lane causing the collision.

“Two individuals in the single vehicle sustained minor injuries however, tragically the third driver was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said Lower Mainland RCMP Insp. Davis Wendell.

The road was closed for several hours following the crash and police said alcohol and speed did not appear to be factors in the crash.

Police said there were many witnesses and an investigation is underway.
