Vancouver is buzzing as people celebrate Canada's 142nd birthday at a flurry of events around the Lower Mainland.

Vancouver Canada Day Parade

The party has already kicked off with a street festival at Canada Place in downtown Vancouver. Thousands of Vancouverites will assemble at the corner of Georgia and Broughton Street at 7 p.m. for a Canada Day parade. Visit the Canada Place website for more information.

Granville Island festivities

Granville Island is hosting Canada Day festivities throughout the day that include lots of food, a parade, jazz music, performers, the False Creek Ferries Ballet, and a South Asian Mela gathering, to celebrate a cultural extravaganza of song, traditional dance, and more. Canada Day in Surrey

Surrey is hosting one of Western Canada's largest Canada Day parties. The outdoor show will showcase music from Bif Naked and 54-40. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend this event. It will also include magicians, jugglers, rides, and fireworks to add to the fun. The party will last until 11 p.m. at Surrey's Cloverdale Millennium Amphitheatre. Yaletown Grand Prix

Burrard Inlet fireworks

Finally, Canada Place will co-produce tonight's third-annual Burrard Inlet fireworks show. It will cap of the day's celebrations at 10:30 p.m. Hundreds of thousands of people will take in the unique two barge simultaneous pyrotechnic extravaganza to celebrate Canada's birthday on Vancouver's West End.
