Vancouver police say a 39-year-old man collapsed and died in his residential care home two hours after being released from jail.

Const. Jana McGuinness says initial autopsy results have not identified the cause of death.

She says the man was reported missing from his care home on Sunday night but then returned on his own.

Investigators arrested him there later that night after discovering he was wanted on a warrant for assault.

McGuinness says the man was released to the care home Monday afternoon, but died two hours later.

Earlier this week, Vancouver police revealed that a woman who collapsed and died in hospital in July had been released from police custody earlier in the day after spending the night in jail.

The Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner has been notified of both cases.
