A 43-year-old Vancouver man is in police custody after allegedly attacking his roommate with an axe inside their Kitsilano apartment Tuesday night.

Investigators say the two men got into a heated argument in the 2700-block of West 4th Avenue that quickly escalated to the point where the accused picked up an axe and began swinging it.

The 39-year-old victim suffered cuts to his head, neck, right arm and hand, but managed to escape the home and was found bleeding at a nearby gas station shortly before 11 p.m.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and released.

Police searched the men’s apartment before finding the suspect hiding in a nearby car. He was taken into custody without incident and is facing possible assault and weapons-related charges.
