Conservation officers and Mounties are searching for a rogue cougar responsible for the death of seven farm animals in Maple Ridge, east of Vancouver.

The RCMP say the animal has been on the attack for the past 10 days.

In the latest incident, the animal killed a horse at a farm on 128 Avenue on Sunday morning.

Police sent a public warning Monday afternoon in an effort to make locals vigilant against any further incidents.

So far, there have been no reports of the cougar attacking humans.

"This type of animal is very unpredictable, and is a genuine cause for concern," Insp. Derren Lench said.

Ridge Meadows RCMP said it is working with the B.C. Conservation Service to try and trap the cougar.

Anyone who sees the animal is urged to call B.C. Conservation Service.
