Kelowna RCMP are telling women to watch their drinks after a 23-year-old woman was unknowingly slipped a date rape drug.

Bobbi Regier was taken to Kelowna General Hospital with a low body temperature and slow pulse last Saturday.

She has no memory of what happened.

“I remember getting to the club, I remember getting into the club, and dancing for a bit with my friends,” Regier said.

“I apparently couldn’t walk, I had thrown up in my car and I was pretty incoherent like I couldn’t make sentences, I was mumbling a lot.”

GHB, or gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, causes severe intoxication and those who take it are prone to blackouts. Because it is colourless and odourless, GHB can easily be slipped into a victim’s drink without their knowledge.

Though there were no signs Regier was sexually assaulted, her mother warns potential victims to be aware.

“I was scared for other people’s daughters and other people’s family, and just to let them know that this thing was going on,” Pat Allnut said.

Regier may not have been the only target, as another woman was found incapacitated in a washroom at the same club.

“On occasion we do receive reports that someone has administered GHB to someone without their knowledge or permission,” said Kelowna RCMP Const. Kris Clark.

Police urge people to always protect their drinks and keep an eye on friends.

“It’s always a good idea to be out in groups and have that safety backup,” he said.

The nightclub Regier went to said it’s the first time they’ve heard of the incident, but they have security footage and will check over it to help find the culprit.
