Homicide investigators are probing the suspicious death of a three-year-old girl in Surrey.

Details are scarce, but the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the girl was rushed from a home in Cloverdale to hospital on Wednesday and later succumbed to undisclosed injuries.

"Any time we investigate a suspicious death we treat it very seriously, we ask that the public keep in mind a child has died and her family is now dealing with that death," IHIT spokeswoman Sgt. Stephanie Ashton said.

Ashton said IHIT is working with Surrey RCMP to find out what led to the girl's death.

Neighbours told CTV News that police had been outside the Cloverdale home for days.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-4448, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or to email ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
