SURREY, B.C. -- One man has died after an overnight shooting on a residential street near Bear Creek Park in Surrey.

RCMP confirm they were called to 138A Street near 88 Avenue just before 1 a.m. Tuesday for reports of shots fired.

Neighbours told CTV News they heard the sound of two gunshots ring out. Another resident said she heard screaming immediately after.

By the time RCMP arrived on scene, the victim was already dead.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called to the scene overnight and forensic investigators spent much of Tuesday gathering evidence near a home.

A police tent was put up in a yard over what appears to be the victim's body.

Crystal Marcoux was home with her kids when she heard gunshots and looked outside. She says she saw a four-door vehicle speeding away.

"My kids were literally just playing outside here yesterday afternoon and riding their bikes and scooters down the alley here. To know that happened three doors up from our house is a little nerve-wracking when you have kids," Marcoux told CTV News. "It's a very quiet neighborhood, that's why we moved here."

Marcoux says she has never noticed any problems at the home before.

The victim hasn't been identified, but Surrey RCMP say they believe the shooting is targeted.

An RCMP helicopter was in the area on Tuesday morning as police went door to door canvassing for information and surveillance video.

The death marks Surrey's second homicide of the year.

So far no arrests have been made.
