A homeless man in Burnaby is recovering from a brutal and unprovoked attack.

Paramedics and police found the man at Hastings St. and MacDonald around 2 a.m. Saturday. Someone had beaten the man with a two-by-four as he was sleeping.

The piece of wood apparently had nails in it.

Thankfully, the victim didn't appear to be seriously injured. He was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries.

Police teams, aided by sniffer dogs, combed the scene for clues about the assault.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police or Crimestoppers.
