Recently expelled Hells Angels member Juel Ross Stanton was shot to death at his Vancouver home on Thursday morning.
Residents living in the 200-block of 11th Avenue say they were jolted awake shortly after 6 a.m. by the sound of at least seven gunshots.
Stanton was found collapsed in the backyard of his home. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him, then rushed him to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Vancouver police say the 41-year-old was, until recently, a full-patch member of the Angels' East End Chapter.
"It is our understanding that he was expelled from the club some time this year," Const. Jana McGuinness told reporters.
Police cordoned off the home and searched the area for more than an hour, but were unable to locate a suspect. McGuinness said officers will be canvassing the neighourhood again today in hopes of finding discarded evidence.
In April, Stanton was charged with five counts stemming from a fight at the Ivanhoe Pub on Main Street.
He was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of assault causing bodily harm.
Stanton's death was the seventh homicide reported in Vancouver in 2010.
