One woman was killed after a fire broke out in a rural home in Surrey, B.C. Thursday night, while two others managed to escape.

The blaze began at around 9:30 p.m. in the 3200-block of 184th Street. Deputy Fire Chief Jon Caviglia said the fire burned through the roof of the home, causing extensive damage.

"When firefighters arrived, there were a lot of flames coming out of the house already," he said.

"It was extinguished fairly quickly, wasn't a stubborn fire to put out. Firefighters got on scene, made entry and were looking for a female that was reported to be inside."

The woman died at the scene. Her name has not been released.

Two people who were in the basement of the home managed to make it out safe.

Caviglia said investigators were at the scene Friday morning and could have a cause determined by the weekend.
