For the first time in months, a disabled homeless couple from Surrey, B.C. will be sleeping in a warm bed.

Larry and Clara Hunter have been living in their white LTD with their dog Pepper for nine months, but that's about to change.

It took two days to find them, but family friend Jerry Kupchuk has finally located the couple to tell them the good news. He has found them an apartment. Clara breaks down into tears when she hears the news.

"It'll be great," she says.

CTV was first introduced to the couple last week, when they were sleeping in a seedy parking lot in Surrey. Clara suffers from lupus and fibromyalgia and Larry has foot problems and can barely walk. They have been forced to live in a car since losing their accommodation in the spring. Jerry turned to CTV for help.

"I was getting nowhere until CTV actually, until the social services department found out that the media was getting involved," he says.

On Tuesday, Jerry got an appointment for the Hunter's to get emergency aid. CTV went with them to their appointment. The couple leaves victorious.

"We got a place. We got a place," says Clara, starting to cry.

"It's been a long time, over a year."

"You know if it hadn't been for you guys, for CTV. If it hadn't been for you guys I would have still been out there struggling," says Jerry.

But instead, Clara, Larry and Pepper have a new place to call home.

How you can help

If you know someone that needs help, the best thing you can do is act as their advocate, because they likely haven't been able to ask for help before. The Fraser Health Authority says you can take someone to the emergency ward. They can be medically assessed, and psychiatrically assessed, if necessary.
