A 76-year-old man is dead after being found unconscious on Lake of the Woods in Hope, B.C., on Sunday.

Kayakers discovered the elderly man's body floating on the lake's north side at around 4:00 p.m. and brought him to shore. They then gave the man CPR, but could not resuscitate him.

Police believe the man, who is from Sidney, B.C., was likely dead before he was given first aid.

He was wearing only swimming trunks when he was found. Police believe he likely drowned or suffered from another type of medical distress while in the water and do not suspect foul play.

The victim's name is not being released.

At least five people have died in separate drownings around British Columbia in July. This past weekend a 17-year-old international student from China drowned in Alice Lake near Squamish, B.C.
