Two elderly passengers were killed when a minivan collided with several parked cars on Main Street near East 49th Thursday evening.

A 38-year-old driver has non-life threatening injuries, but his 82-year-old father and 74-year-old mother have died.

"A 1993 Toyota van was traveling south on Main Street and crossed 49th Avenue and came into the oncoming lanes," said Const. Brian Montague. "It struck the curb in the northbound lanes and struck some parked cars, it actually ended up hitting five parked cars."

Police say it appears both passengers killed in the crash were wearing seatbelts.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, but speed has not been ruled out.

Officers with the collision unit will examine whether the driver was suffering from any medical issues or if the older-model van had any mechanical problems.

This brings Vancouver to seven traffic related deaths in 2014.
