A refrigerated mixture of marijuana and solvent is to blame for an explosion at a Downtown Eastside rooming house, Vancouver police say.
Emergency crews were called to the building, located in the 100-block of Main Street, at around 7:30 p.m. Friday after a resident's refrigerator blew up.
"An investigation revealed that a tenant had treated a small amount of marijuana with a solvent and placed it in his refrigerator, where it reacted to the light of the refrigerator bulb," Insp. Eric Grummisch said.
The light may have stayed on because the door was not fully closed, he added.
No one was injured in the explosion, but the unit sustained serious damage.
No charges have been laid.
