A man and a woman are in hospital after a shooting, apparently witnessed by a child, in Surrey, B.C. Friday, according to police.

Police say the woman and her 10-year-old son arrived home just after midnight and were met in a car garage by a masked man.

Following an argument, shots were fired and the woman was wounded in the wrist and shoulder.

Her 10-year-old son was not injured and police say the woman’s wounds are non-life-threatening.

Thirty minutes later, police pulled over a man driving a van. When the officer walked back to his car with the driver’s licence the man shot himself in the head, but survived.

The man was taken to hospital in critical condition and the Independent Investigations Office has been called in to investigate.
