Dial-a-dope: Man calls police looking for drugs

A Vancouver Island man who police say accidentally called his local RCMP detachment looking for drugs is now facing charges for allegedly bringing a weapon to a meeting with a police officer.
A Mountie in Campbell River answered the call -- apparently a wrong number -- on Aug. 6, and played along as the man on the other end said he was looking to buy $100 worth of drugs.
Police have offered few details about the dopey dial, but say the officer arranged a meet-up with the stranger later the same day. Shortly before the scheduled rendezvous, the same caller rang up again, offering to trade some Oxycontin for the drugs.
A 37-year-old man from Campbell River showed up at the arranged time and place, and was promptly arrested by the officer. When the Mountie searched the suspect, he says he discovered a concealed weapon.
Police are now recommending charges.
