A 19-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in what appears to be a domestic dispute turned deadly in Chilliwack.

RCMP found a 51-year-old woman dead in a home in the Yarrow neighbourhood of Chilliwack early on Feb. 24.

The cause of her death has not been released but police say she died “as a result of suspicious circumstances.”

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team now says that Clayton Jacob Warkentin was taken into custody without incident on Friday night, and is now charged with first-degree murder.

The identity of the deceased has not been made public, however investigators say the pair was known to each other.

“The incidents leading up to this homicide appear to be domestic related however as this matter is now before the courts no further information will be released,” Sgt. Stephanie Ashton said in a statement.

Warkentin is slated to appear in Chilliwack court Monday.
