Crews are battling a small “human-caused” wildfire near Lions Bay, a village just west of Vancouver on the Sea to Sky Highway.

Donna MacPherson with the Coastal Fire Centre said currently 21 personnel and three helicopters are battling the one-hectare fire.

MacPherson said the fire is burning above the village on a steep mountainside about a kilometre from the nearest home, so officials aren’t worried about nearby houses.

She said the fire is currently a rank one or two fire - meaning it's mainly smoldering.

There are hiking trails in the area and MacPherson asked people to hike somewhere else while crews work to put out the fire.

MacPherson said the fire is human cause, but exactly how it started hasn't been determined.

Officials said conditions in the area are dry with a high fire risk.
