Court proceedings scheduled to begin Friday for the man accused of trying to kill a Yaletown bike store owner and five police officers have been held over until next week.

Gerald Battersby is charged with six counts of attempted murder in connection with a shooting rampage Tuesday.

The 61-year-old also faces four weapons charges, including possessing an illegal firearm.

Battersby was shot by police at least three times before he was arrested outside of the Telus World of Science.

Victim Paul Dragan, 52, remains in hospital in stable but critical condition.

Battersby, a former employee and tenant of Dragan, does not have a lawyer and remains hospitalized under police guard.

"The Crown sought an adjournment of the file simply because he is still in the hospital under police guard. And we're hoping that he will be released perhaps next week or shortly after that," said Criminal Justice Branch spokesperson Gordon Comer.

The next court appearance is slated for June 18.
