Mounties in Richmond blocked off a suburban street Tuesday afternoon following reports that a young child had been shot accidentally.
An unidentified person was struck at a duplex around 1 p.m. and transported to hospital with injuries, RCMP confirmed.
Authorities say there is no danger to anyone else in the neighbourhood.
CTV News captured images of two small children being interviewed by police before being taken away from the scene in the back of an RCMP cruiser.
A home was blocked off by police tape and at least five emergency vehicles could be seen on the road.
Police have not provided the age or condition of the victim.
Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said that the extent of the victim's injuries was not known.
A neighbour who identified herself as Susan called the incident shocking: "I've been here 33 years and I've never seen excitement like this."
Susan said a family with two young children lived at the home where the shooting occurred.
The incident occurred in the 10000-block of Whistler Court, a residential area near the corner of Steveston Highway and Gilbert Road.
