A 37-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting young children at his wife’s daycare in Maple Ridge.

The number of alleged victims and their ages have not been released, but police say all were left in the care of Shining Stars Daycare, which operates out of the basement of a home in the 20400-block of 122 Avenue.

The owner’s husband, Latif Hamad Tata, was arrested last week and remanded in custody at a court appearance Monday.

“Police have informed the Ministry for Children and Family Development, as well as the Fraser Health Community Care Facilities licencing about this case,” Cpl. Alanna Dunlop said in a statement. “Investigators spent this past weekend interviewing children and their parents.”

Mounties say the daycare involved is not to be confused with the Shining Stars Montessori Daycare and Preschool, also located in Maple Ridge.

Few details about the accusations against Tata have been revealed, but police fear there may be other alleged victims.

Any parent whose child attended the daycare, and who has not already been contacted by police is asked to call the Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251.
