A Vancouver man has been charged with sexual assault after a woman was allegedly groped while walking her dog in Yaletown last week.

The victim told police that she was walking along the seawall south of the 700-block of Pacific Boulevard on the evening of March 23, when a man came up behind her, reached under her skirt, and grabbed her buttocks.

Vancouver resident James Frank Shalagan, 29, was identified as a suspect after an anonymous caller told police that they recognized Shalagan from a photograph in the newspaper.

Shalagan was arrested on Tuesday at a homeless shelter in the 300-block of East Hastings Street in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside neighbourhood. He remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 1.
