VANCOUVER -- The Vancouver Canucks cancelled practice and workouts on Sunday after learning about a potential COVID-19 exposure.

The team shared news of the cancellation on Twitter, saying the decision was made out of "an abundance of caution."

There was no immediate word as to where the potential exposure happened or whether any players or staff had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Later in the day, the team's public relations account indicated that practice would be held on Monday at 11 a.m., with media availability afterwards. The team offered no further information about the exposure on Sunday.

The Canucks are scheduled to open their season on Wednesday in Edmonton against the Oilers.

Vancouver is the fourth NHL team to see COVID-19 affect its training camp, and the first Canadian club to see disruption related to the disease.

The Dallas Stars announced on Friday that six players and two staff members had tested positive for COVID-19.

Two other U.S.-based clubs - the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Pittsburgh Penguins - have kept some or all of their players off the ice due to possible COVID-19 exposure.
