At only 297 square feet, the condos at Surrey’s Balance Microsuites will be the smallest for sale in Canada.

The tiny suites start at around $109,000, and could be an alternative for those daunted by pricey homes in the Lower Mainland.

“It's the next generation of homes and reality is, there are a certain number of people who don't want the large space or who can't afford a large space,” said building developer Charan Sethi.

The suite combines a living room, kitchen, dining room and bedroom into a single room, and has a separate bathroom. The fold-down bed also turns into a couch.

Sethi says the units have attracted interest from young people as well as retirees who want to downsize and travel.

“In a nutshell, people who just don't want a big space anymore," said Sethi.

The condos go up for sale starting this weekend.
