Police in New Westminster and Burnaby scrambled to respond to separate calls of shots fired early Thursday morning.

A Burnaby ERT team surrounded a home in the 3700-block of Oxford Street near Boundary Road after receiving reports of shots fired at or near the residence around 1:45 a.m.

Police at the scene could be seen using tracking dogs to search bushes around the home. Investigators also used searchlights to probe the yard around the home.

Two hours later, New Westminster Police responded to reports of gunshot fire at a home in the 2100-block of Dublin Street.

Sgt. Gary Weishaar said officers at the scene cordoned off the surrounding streets after confirming that a home and a vehicle had been struck by bullets.

Witnesses reported hearing at least six gunshots.

Forensic and major crimes investigators arrived at the scene several hours later to gather evidence and interview residents.

Police still don't know if the incident is targeted.

There is no indication of any injuries in either incident. It is not known if the shootings are connected.
