Wardens in two national parks on the Alberta-British Columbia boundary are on the lookout for a black bear that attacked a female jogger in a day use area, leaving her with bites to her legs and back.

Officials say the woman was jogging Wednesday night near the Great Divide day use area west of Lake Louise, Alta., when she surprised the black bear.

Wardens say the woman tried to scare the bear off, but when it wouldn't back away, she laid down and played dead.

That's when the bear attacked her.

Wardens say the woman managed to get up and slowly backed away from the animal, clapping her hands and yelling until it eventually left her alone.

Her injuries are said to be minor.
