ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - A founding member of the 1970s rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive is facing sex-related charges after a string of alleged incidents with a minor.
Tim Bachman, who lives and works near Vancouver, is accused of offences between 2000 and 2004, starting when a girl was 11 years old.
The Abbotsford, B.C., man, 58, is charged with sexual interference with a person under 14, touching a young person for sexual purpose and sexual assault.
Bachman turned himself over to police in early May, a few days after charges were sworn. His lawyer made a first appearance in court on his behalf on Monday.
The investigation began after the girl came forward in March 2009, with police recommending charges a year later, said Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald.
"When youth or children are victimized, there are a lot of factors that go into disclosing," MacDonald said.
"It takes an act of courage to come forward."
MacDonald said the victim was known to Bachman, but couldn't say more to protect her identity.
Police initially recommended charges of sexual exploitation.
Bachman, who played guitar for the band and now works as a realtor, makes his first court appearance on July 5.
Bachman-Turner Overdrive is known for the hit songs "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" and "Takin' Care of Business."
It was founded by Bachman and his brothers, Randy and Robbie, and Fred Turner.
