Alleged carjacking ends in New West crash
A man and a woman are in police custody after an alleged carjacking in Burnaby on Sunday.
The alleged carjacking happened near Metrotown with a replica handgun, in the 7100-block of McKay Avenue.
Police said a man was standing outside of his car when the suspect pulled the phony gun and told him to give up the car and other possessions.
The suspects drove off and the car was spotted by Burnaby RCMP near New Westminster.
Preliminary reports say a police cruiser turned on its lights and siren to pull over the car and seconds later it crashed into an SUV, which then hit another police cruiser blocking the intersection in New Westminster.
One police officer went to the hospital as a precaution after the incident, but no one was seriously injured in the crash.
Police have taped off an intersection near New Westminster Secondary School on 8th Street as they investigate.
One of those arrested was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.
