A campaign was launched in Surrey today to raise money for special buses that police across B.C. could use to test for impaired drivers.

The campaign, which aims to raise $1.25 million for five buses, is in memory of four-year-old Alexa Middelaer, who was killed by a drunk driver in Delta in 2008.

The buses will have all the space and equipment needed to collect evidence and process impaired drivers at the roadside, and will also be used to help educate people about the dangers of impaired driving.

Alexa's mother Laurel says working on the campaign has given her family a way to channel its grief and honour Alexa, as well as helping police get a tool they need.
