ABBOTSFORD -- Police are concerned that an ongoing dispute among young residents of a neighbourhood in the west of Abbotsford could escalate to violence.
The conflict is between two groups of males between the ages of 15 and 25 - a total of about 20 peole, Abbotsford police said in a release. More than 25 incidents have been reported since May 11, most of them involving property damage, but police say they're "extremely concerned" that the conflict could result in "serious injuries" either to the young men involved or their families.
Abbotsford police Const. Ian MacDonald told CTV News that police don't believe the dispute is gang- or drug-related.
Most of the incidents have taken place at night. MacDonald said police have received calls about rocks thrown through windows and cars damaged while sitting in driveways. One complaint was for a Maserati smashed up with a sledgehammer on Canada Day.
Police have also been called to fights in parks in the middle of the night. He said a few arrests have been made and assault charges have been recommended.
