Three people are dead and three others are injured after a crash just north of Kelowna Tuesday evening.

Mounties say a Chevrolet Malibu driving northbound on Highway 97 near Parkinson Drive crossed into coming traffic, clipping the passenger’s side of a southbound Kia before veering into the path of an oncoming five-ton truck.

Three people inside the Malibu, an 82-year-old man, 79-year-old woman and 14-year-old boy, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck and two Kia occupants suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

No names or ages have been released and the cause has not been determined.

The highway was closed for several hours because of the investigation.
