A young man is dead after disappearing into the waters below Lynn Canyon Park in North Vancouver.

The RCMP told CTV News that a young man or possibly a teenager was swimming in the water below the suspension bridge Monday afternoon when he vanished.

Mounties said the young man had climbed over the fence to get to the water.

Rescue efforts began around 4:30 p.m., with crews lowering a large flotation device from the suspension bridge.

The RCMP Dive Team and fire services were also at the scene, but the rescue mission turned into a recovery in the early evening.

Recovery efforts were impaired by the rushing waters, and crews had difficulty accessing the body.

The victim has not yet been identified.
