Between constantly changing styles and hemline lengths, keeping your wardrobe current can be exhausting – and an exercise in conspicuous consumption.

That’s why one woman in B.C.’s Okanagan is saying yes to a single dress for the next six months.

Ingrid Uhrich, who has worked in the fashion industry for several decades, says she’s fighting back against so-called “fast fashion”: the pressures from society and the fashion industry to constantly buy new items.

“It used to be by seasons, so you had six months to buy into the season, but now it's every three weeks,” she said.

With that in mind, she is embarking on an experiment to wear the same black dress 180 days in a row.

Uhrich says she will wash the dress, and keep it looking fresh by swapping out accessories, like jewelry, jackets and scarves. She’s documenting the “180 Style Challenge” by photographing each day’s look and uploading it on her website.

The campaign is also a fundraiser with a GoFundMe account to help build a new campus for a private school in Kelowna while supporting an education fund for Haiti at the same time.

With 154 days to go, Uhrich is confident in her mission.

“We can do more with less, and you don't have to buy into trends to look stylish," she said.
