A high-risk violent sex offender who has targeted women and young girls in the past is planning on moving to Surrey, authorities are warning the public.

Narinder Wasan has been convicted of a number of crimes including sex assault, sex assault with a weapon, sexual interferences, assault, failure to comply, uttering threats, breach of trust and driving, property and drug offences, according to a release sent out by Surrey RCMP on behalf of BC Corrections.

As a result, the 49-year-old South Asian man is monitored by authorities and must abide by 20 court-ordered conditions including no contact whatsoever with women under the age of 18.

Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts expressed anger that Wasan would move into the city in a tweet Friday, writing “This guy needs to be locked up. Safety of our residents comes first and foremost. Laws need to be changed,” with a link to a news story about his release.

Wasan was arrested in Delta in 2005 and charged with sexual assault after he allegedly approached two 10-year-old girls in a Burnaby schoolyard, kissing on of them on the neck.

He was released from custody Friday after serving a prison sentence for sexually assaulting a woman in a Vancouver park.

Other conditions he’s subject to include not attending any public park or swimming area where girls under 18 years old are expected to be, not possessing any weapons, not drinking or doing drugs and not entering any liquor store or bar.

Wasan is also banned from being in contact with any sex trade workers.

Anyone who sees him violating the conditions is asked to call local police.
