A public vigil will be held for murdered Simon Fraser University student Maple Batalia on Friday night.

The vigil was organized by the university and will take place in Surrey at Holland Park at 7 p.m.

The 19-year-old aspiring actress was found critically wounded after being shot in a parking garage near SFU’s Surrey campus early Wednesday morning.

On Thursday, police said that they have doubled the number of investigators working on the investigation, but no arrests have been made.

Family and friends believe the killer may be someone Batalia knew, and say she recently broke up with her boyfriend.

RCMP say they are considering that evidence, and have interviewed several persons of interest in the case.

The girl’s parents say she was considering a career in medicine but loved being in front of the camera.  Batalia was set to compete in Surrey’s Central City Model search on Saturday, but that event has been postponed indefinitely.
