Air Miles expiration date

If you collect Air Miles, you’ll want to pay attention to the calendar. Starting January 1, 2017, Air Miles will start to expire on a quarterly basis once they’re five years old. Whenever you redeem your miles, the oldest ones in your account will be used first. Customers should check their mileage online so they know how many miles they have and when they’ll start expiring. Pet insurance reaction

Debra got in touch after seeing the story of the Comox woman who had trouble making a pet insurance claim for her dog’s surgery. Debra ran into similar problems when she tried to file a claim when her dog Albert got sick and says she’s found a better way to prepare for an emergency. After the insurance company denied her claim, she cancelled her policy and decided to put the money she would’ve spent into a bond. Albert has since passed away, but she now has a healthy savings in there in case of emergency for her new dog, Lola.

Pets in condos

Courtney loves her gecko, Gordon, but she’s having a hard time finding a strata rental because of him. Many stratas and landlords have pet ownership restrictions. However, she was confused by the rules since some buildings with pet restrictions have allowed her to rent anyway because he’s a small animal, doesn’t smell or make noise.

Tony Gioventu with the Condominium Home Owners Association says there are two things to consider if you’re a tenant with a pet: the strata bylaws and the individual landlord’s rules.

Gioventu says the Guide Dog and Service Dog Act would apply to certified assistance animals, and there can also potentially be other exemptions under the B.C. Human Rights code. But unless those circumstances are clear, the strata doesn’t have the authority to exempt anyone from its rules.

“Strata councils don’t have the authority to ‘overlook’ bylaws. They have an obligation to enforce them,” he said.
