CTV British Columbia announced today that veteran broadcast journalist Lynda Steele will become the station's new Consumer Reporter on May 16.

"We're thrilled that Lynda Steele is the new face of one of the most respected and established news brands in British Columbia, the On Your Side consumer segment," said Margo Harper, News Director, CTV British Columbia. "Steele On Your Side will continue the long tradition of helping consumers make informed decisions about products and issues that affect their pocketbooks. In addition, with Lynda at the helm, we will expand the advocacy role of On Your Side and aggressively challenge those who would cheat or take advantage of the honest consumer."

Lynda Steele is moving to CTV British Columbia from Edmonton, Alta., where she has anchored Global's 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts since 1995. Steele is an award-winning reporter and anchor who has worked in newsrooms across Western Canada. She is regarded as one of the most respected, trusted and talented broadcast journalists in the region.

Steele has a passion for the business of television news, and her dedication has garnered several awards including Canadian Professional Television Association's (CANPRO) Gold Award for best feature reporting in Canada; Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association's (AMPIA) Best Journalist, Best Female News Anchor, Best Host, and Best Light Information program for a special series of half-hour interviews called Lynda Steele Presents; The Canadian Association of Broadcasters Award for Outstanding Community Service; and Western Association of Broadcasters' Broadcaster of the Year award in 2009.

"I am very excited to be joining the talented and dynamic CTV BC news team. In my opinion, it's one of the strongest local newscasts in the country, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as consumer champion and advocate for B.C. viewers," said Lynda Steele.
