Vancouver police have arrested child sex offender Gerald Richard McLean following a tip from an alert citizen.

Early on Saturday police issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for McLean, 44, who failed to return to his halfway house.

McLean is serving a long term supervision order after completing a two-year sentence for sexually assaulting a small child. Previously he had been convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

At 1:45 p.m. police received a call from a citizen who had spotted McLean and made the arrest in the area of 33rd Avenue and Oak Street.

In 2010 McLean was previously arrested near McBride, B.C. after failing to return to his Vancouver halfway house.
