A man is dead and another is in custody after an alleged altercation that took place outside a Vancouver pub Friday night.

Police have deemed it the city’s third homicide of the year.

William David Floyd, 47, was pronounced dead in hospital after police found him unresponsive in the 1000-block of Main Street at around 10 p.m. Friday.

Police said Floyd, who was known to them, was kicked out of the Ivanhoe Pub at 1038 Main St. earlier in the night without incident.

It is uncertain why he was ejected from the pub.

“Investigators are still trying to determine what exactly took place, how things played out, who may have had a role in this death, and what their role may have been,” said Const. Brian Montague.

Floyd’s exact cause of death has not been determined and an investigation by police is ongoing.

A 50-year-old Coquitlam man has been taken into custody but no charges have been laid, Montague said.

Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
