The Surrey RCMP is investigating a violent incident that led to a man and his two-year-old son getting pepper sprayed at the Newton bus loop early Thursday morning.

Mounties were called to the Newton Exchange on 72nd Avenue near 137th Street around 2 a.m.

Police say it's not clear what led to the attack, and the injured duo was rushed to hospital.

Staff Sgt. Dale Carr told CTV Vancouver it appears the incident is random because the two groups don’t know each other.

He believes there was some kind of altercation, but says there’s no danger to the public.

Three men were arrested nearby, and may face criminal charges.

Earlier police reports indicated the child injured was a young girl, however police provided updated information Thursday afternoon.
