Vancouver's cruise ship terminal was packed on Friday with thousands of passengers arriving from and departing to Alaska.

Thousands of excited travelers lined up at Canada Place before rush hour to drop off their bags before exploring the city on foot. Others arrived in the city by ship after spending the week at sea.

An estimated 13,000 people will pass through Canada Place this afternoon on three ships: the Celebrity Solstice, Norwegian Jewel and Crown Princess.

The ships arrived between 7 and 8 a.m., and were scheduled to leave between 4:30 and 5 p.m., according to the Port of Vancouver schedule.

The schedule lists two ships that will be moored at Canada Place on Saturday, and one to be docked on Sunday.

Approximately 24,000 cruise passengers are expected in the city next weekend as well, which would cause heavy traffic in the downtown core.

Those planning to be downtown during the weekend should expect an increased demand for taxis and public transportation.

Vancouver is expecting to welcome about 830,000 cruise passengers through its harbor this year.
