Victoria police are recommending assault charges after an unprovoked attack on a tourist in a public square.

A Spanish tourist was beaten up Monday afternoon while sitting on a bench outside the downtown library.

The 21-year-old suspect fled the scene but was arrested shortly after by patrol officers, who noticed the man was wearing the distinctive shoes as the time of the attack.

“The suspect also had injuries to his hand consistent with a fight,” a spokesperson said.

He is expected to appear in court Tuesday. There is no word on the tourist’s condition.
