A Vancouver restaurant that tested the "no tipping" concept is once again encouraging patrons to leave a tip.

Ritual, a new West End eatery on Denman Street near Robson, announced in April that it would shun tipping.

Owner Nevada Cope said they decided instead to pay all servers and kitchen workers an equal wage of about $21 per hour. The wage was calculated based on the amount workers would need to afford living expenses in the area.

But just three months later, Cope said the restaurant has gone back to traditional tipping.

"The sales just weren't there to support paying a living wage to everyone, so we actually had to give up the living wage and bring back tipping to subsidize the wages," Cope told CTV News on Wednesday.

They're now asking customers to leave a tip, and splitting the funds evenly among staff members.
